Beverly's city meetings, once a week, by email
What the City Council, School Committee and city boards did, and what is coming up. Built from the meeting recordings and the city's posted documents, with links so you can check any of it. Independent, not a City of Beverly publication.

- Lynch Park gets a state grant for most of its seawall permits
The Council accepted a $430,456 state grant toward the design and permits for repairing Lynch Park's seawalls, about 80% of the cost, after earlier state applications fell short.
- Data centers: Beverly's pause, the state's new rule and Salem's ban
Beverly's proposed pause on data centers has a November 9 hearing. The governor's new order covers only the largest projects and works through state permits; Beverly and Salem are using zoning, and Salem has adopted a permanent ban.
- Cabot Street electric work, planned for after New Year's
National Grid plans new underground electric lines on Cabot Street after New Year's, for up to three months, with detours while it digs across the street.
- Also decided: shrubs and trees, a quorum fix, and grants
The ordinance on private trees and shrubs that block sidewalks passed its final vote, the Human Rights Committee can now meet with open seats, and the Council accepted several grants.
- Two Beverly laws signed
Two state laws Beverly asked for were signed: one moves fire alarm operators hired by 2006 into a different retirement group, and one lets the police chief serve until 70.
- Who controls the city budget
How the city charter and state law split budget power: the Mayor writes the budget, and the Council can cut it but not add to it. Plus the calendar, from fall ideas to the June vote.
